Rhodes Mk I Stage 73 (1975) full restoration

Rhodes Mk I Stage 73 (1975) full restoration

This was a fun one! I time-lapsed nearly the entire restoration of a 1975 Rhodes Mk I Stage 73. This particular Rhodes would be broadly called an “early model”, because the action rail and harp supports are made of wood, rather than metal, and has individual hammer and damper arms, rather than the hammers and dampers being grouped into “combs”. Some the hammers on this piano had worn or broken pins, and needed replacing – this is probably due to the excessive powdered lubricant that had been applied in the pianos past, which unfortunately grinds away at the plastic hammer joint over time. This piano had flat key pedestals, so I also installed the bump mod.

Ambroise Thomas wrote of her: “This is not a woman who composes, but a composer who is a woman.” Um… baby steps I guess? At any rate, better than having to publish under your younger brother’s name and let him take credit, lest it bring shame to the family!! *cough* Fanny Mendelssohn *cough*
